First title of 2011 for Barça Sorli Discau (7-2)
Sònia de Alba (Enviada especial)
The Copa Continental is Barça’s again! After a hard working performance, Barça Sorli Discau kept a cool head and maintained maximum concentration to see off Liceo in the final.
The first trophy of the season for Barça Sorli Discau was won in Bilbao tonight, as Ferran
Pujalte’s team put in a hard working performance to beat one of the most dangerous rivals on
the scene –Liceo and take the Copa Continental.
Ordeig opens the scoring
Barça made a great start and after Alberto Borregán robbed possession early on in
midfield to launch a counter attack, Beto had the chance to open the scoring, but Malián was able
to stop his attempt to lift the ball past him. There were then three posts before Mia Ordeig
finally did get the opener, half way through the first half.
Liceo came back into the game though and Josep Lamas got the equaliser with a shot from the
left that Sergi Fernandez could do nothing about and although Carlitos Lopez had a great chance to
give Barça the lead with a penalty just before the break, the two teams went in level at half time.
Early penalty action
At the start of the second, Sergio Fernandez was shown a yellow at a
penalty and then a blue which meant that Aitoe Egurrola had to face the penalty and in an action
that boosted the team’s morale he saved it. Liceo were unable to take advantage of their
numerical superiority and it was in fact Barça who grabbed the first of the half when Mia Oedeig
scored with a strong well placed shot from a second attempt at a penalty..
Pablo Álvarez could have equalised, but his goal from the penalty was ruled illegal for
lifting the stick too high and soon after, Liceo had another when Marc Torra committed a clear foul
and Egurrola now saw a blue, meaning that Fernandez was back between the posts and he managed to
stop the penalty. The excitement was growing now and Liceo would come to rue those misses! Meantime
Torra had made it 3-1 for Barça.
Borregan makes it four, and five
Once again, Barça were a man down, but they refused to buckle and Borregan made it
4-1 with a masterful strike that seemed to have wrapped up the game, but 30 seconds later Pablo
Alvarez made it 4-2 and Ferran Pujalte called a time out.
Borregán showed Liceo the way by scoring a fifth from the penalty spot and gave Barça a three
goal cushion going into the last ten minutes.
Barça finish the game off
With five minutes left, Liceo were a man down when Josep Lamas saw a straight red
and Marc Torra took advantage with a finally, Adroher got the seventh to round off a get win and
the first trophy of the season.
