Reaction comes too late (4-5)

Igualada have surprised Barça Sorli Discau at the Palau. The visitors always had the upper hand, and two late Barça goals were not enough to close the deficit.

It was Barça Sorli Discau’s first league defeat this season, and a sad way to celebrate the day that the OK Liga 2009/10 trophy was presented to the club by Lluís Ferrer, president of the National Federation.

Dynamic start

Ferran Formatjé topped a strong start for the visitors with the opener, although Barça found an immediate response thanks to Jordi Adroher. It was lightning stuff on the court, because before you could blink, Igualada were back in front from the stick of Edu Fernández, 1-2, which is the way things still stood at the break.

Reinaldo García then equalised for FCB from the penalty spot. But this was not the start of a Barça reaction, in fact it was quite the reverse. Igualada’s Jaume Llaverola was simply stunning, and his swerving runs led to a flurry of goals from the visitors, two by Pelícano and one by Formatjé. It was 2-5 with just eight minutes on the clock.

Barça Sorli Discau then embarked on what almost proved to be a sensational comeback. Argentina’s Carlos López found the target twice and all of a sudden there was just one goal in it. But it wasn’t to be, and Igualada took the full spoils from a gripping game of roller hockey.
