Joan Casals, better known as l’Avi del Barça, has shaved off his beard after pledging to do so if Barça won the Champions League at Wembley.
Special shave on 'Infopenyes'
The 'Infopenyes' show on Barça TV has recorded a light-hearted report of how l’Avi del Barça
kept his promise and visited the local barber. It first screens on Wednesday June 29 at 23.00.
Coma-ruga (El Vendrell) was the venue for one of the most unusual events involving Barça supporters
clubs in recent years. Joan Casals, l’Avi del Barça, lost his famous white beard after
promising to remove said facial hair should FC Barcelona win the European title at Wembley. The
trophy was indeed won, and so the PB Coma-ruga, on occasion of an exhibition match between
Coma-ruga and Els Amics del Salva, and the visit of Josep Maldonado, patron of the FC Barcelona
Foundation, organised this curious de-bearding session.
Third shave for Joan Casals
Joan Casals is a man of his word. This is not the first time he has shaved his beard, having
already done so when his beloved team won the Champions league both in Paris and Rome. It was way
back in 1992, when FCB also won at Wembley, that he said he’d shave off his beard of they
could ever win the title again. They have now won it no fewer than three more times, and it has
become a tradition that if ever Barça win the Champions League, then its Grandfather will be
beard-less until it grows back.
