The Peña Deportiva FC Barcelona de Úbeda held its 25th anniversary, and also hosted the 11th Jaen Supporters’ Clubs Meeting. Jordi Cardoner did not want to miss this event.
It was a busy day for the club. At midday, Jordi Cardoner, along with Jose García, president of the supporters club, unveiled a commemorative plaque to open the club’s new headquarters. Later, they went to the Auditorio Hospital de Santiago, where a debate was chaired by Francesc Perarnau.
Reviewing supporters' clubs' present and future
To start, Marcelino Ruiz, Mayor of Úbeda, welcomed all the guests, followed by a summary by
the club president of its history over this first quarter of a century. Cardoner opened his speech
by explaining the basics of the Penyes Segle XXI project, and spoke about the different aspects and
changes that this will mean for the supporters club movement. The Vice president also described the
current condition of the project that has only recently got under way.
After a question and answer session, former player Francisco José Carrasco reviewed the
general condition of FC Barcelona. He highlighted the values the club promotes, and the good
feeling it generates around the world. But there was no avoiding the issue of the forthcoming
showdown with Real Madrid, and he spoke about the different ways of viewing football of Barça and
Madrid.
Excellent organization of the provincial meeting
Once the speeches were over, it was time to move onto the more festive part of the day, with
a dinner at Hotel RL Ciudad de Úbeda, to commemorate both the anniversary and the gathering of all
the different supporters clubs in Jaen, including a cake. The Mayor of Úbeda, and also the
president of the host club and Tomás Martínez, delegate of the Andalusia Centre Supporters Clubs
Advisory Council, congratulated the club and also Jordi Cardoner for twenty-five years of Barça
fervour and the fantastic organisation of supporters clubs regional meeting.
